Search engines validate your business by cross-referencing external sources. When those sources disagree, confidence drops. It rarely causes a dramatic collapse — it causes a ceiling you cannot explain.
Pick one canonical format and never deviate
Decide exactly how your name, street, suite designation and phone number are written, then use that format everywhere with no exceptions.
Do not add keywords to your business name. It violates guidelines, invites competitor reports, and creates permanent inconsistency across every listing you have ever built.
Fix the source, not the symptom
Data aggregators feed hundreds of smaller directories. Correcting a listing downstream without fixing the aggregator means the bad data returns within months.
Start upstream, then clean the downstream listings that did not update automatically.
Duplicates are worse than inconsistency
Two listings for one location split reviews, links and authority. Merging or suppressing them is often the single highest-impact citation task available.
