Local SEO for Service Area Businesses Without a Storefront

How businesses that travel to customers can rank without a public address — and the mistakes that get them suspended.

May 12, 2026 · 7 min read

Contractors, mobile services and home-based businesses can rank well in local search, but the service-area model has its own constraints — and violating them is one of the most common causes of suspension.

Hide the address, keep the accuracy

Google requires you to enter a real address during verification even when it is hidden from the public. Using a virtual office or a mailbox address is a guideline violation and a frequent suspension trigger.

Once hidden, your rankings still radiate from that real location. That is why an honest service area matters more than an aspirational one.

Set a service area you can defend

Listing twenty towns does not make you eligible in twenty towns. Set a radius that reflects where you genuinely work, and support the outer edges with location pages on your site.

Compensate with content and reviews

Without a storefront you lose walk-in signals, so prominence carries more weight. Review velocity, local content and community citations become the primary growth levers.
