Local SEO has a trust problem, earned honestly by years of vague reporting and long contracts. A handful of direct questions will tell you most of what you need to know before signing anything.
Ask what happens in month one
A credible answer is specific: audit, profile corrections, citation cleanup, tracking setup. A vague answer about strategy and optimization usually means a template.
Insist on owning your assets
Your website, domain, profile, analytics and phone numbers should be yours. Agencies that retain ownership are building a hostage situation, not a partnership.
Judge reporting by decisions, not pages
Good reporting shows calls, rankings by location, and what will change next month. Length is not quality.
